Intimate Hollywood Wedding In The Wicklow Hills
Today I’m delighted to try give some hope and wedding inspiration during lockdown. This is for all the couples who have had to postpone their weddings. This may even apply to couples who still want to plan a wedding during lockdown and go ahead with their marriage ceremony and are unsure how to go about it. To all the couples who had to postpone their wedding, just remember that you will have your day and it will be awesome.
Original Wedding Plan
Niamh & Eoin were scheduled to get married on the 08/05/2020 in the beautiful village of Hollywood in Co. Wicklow. After the ceremony they had planned to go back to the nearby Poulaphouca House & Falls to celebrate the day with family and friends. Like so many couples they were forced to postpone their wedding until the following year. I was delighted to be able to tell them that I was available for their new date. We can now chat in the New Year about their wedding plans.
I was even happier when about a month later Niamh emailed me and said she and Eoin had decided to go ahead with their ceremony with no guests. Just themselves, their two kids, Eoin’s parents as their witness and of course the local priest. They asked me would I consider taking some photos of the day so they could mark the occasion. I was only to happy to oblige as I was looking forward to getting my camera back in my hand.
A Very Special Occasion
The day turned out to be a very special occasion. One I won’t forget as it was packed full of love and emotion. Niamh & Eoin, it was a pleasure to be involved in you day. I really enjoyed both your company even if it was from a distance. Can’t wait to do it all again next year with your friends and family there to cheer you on.
Message From the Bride
I have asked to Niamh to tell you in her own words how she felt about the build up to the day and how the day unfolded.
Niamh – “It was anyone’s guess when the traditional wedding we had planned for the 8th of May 2020 with 160+ guests would be able to take place. Having postponed from May 2020 to August already and then cancelling that we were looking into 2021 to get married. Disappointing! However, after a conversation with Eoin a week before the original date we wondered if we could have a tiny ceremony and have our BIG day next year with family and friends. We contacted our priest and he was very happy to do the sacrament for us. We were thrilled however we had to make big sacrifices including; none of our guests being in attendance, no reception and not having our wedding dress or suit!!
How the Wedding Day Began
We did have two very big positives; our original florist and photographer were local and agreed to be part of our day.
On the morning of the wedding myself Eoin and the two kids got ready together at home. We had breakfast with Eoin’s parents who live next door. My dress had arrived only the day before and thankfully it fit!
We have incredible friends and family and they were all so supportive. They organised so many wonderful surprises; gifts, cards, zoom parties, video messages, champagne, flowers ,chocolates, treats for the kids and many more we felt so loved. Some of them even got dressed up and celebrated at home with one another. It was truly lovely to know that they had their own mini celebrations and were thinking of us.
Magical Day
We drove together to the church and had a few photographs outside. Then children walked me down the aisle we had a short ceremony. After the ceremony we all walked up Hollywood village before heading to Poulaphouca House and Falls for a few photographs. They had put on an afternoon tea for us as a surprise. With the weather so nice we made the most of our time there and captured some lovely shots. After we heading home and spent the evening outside with the children and Eoin’s parents. We had take-out from The Brown Bear and we had our first (and only) dance on the patio as the sun was setting on what was a truly intimate and magical day.
We couldn’t be happier with how our day turned out given the circumstances. It all came together by being positive and focusing on what it meant to us. Yes, it would have been nice for our families and friends to be present. We feel lucky that we had the opportunity to get married and we can have a celebration and renew our vows with all our loved one’s next year.
The Icing on the Cake
The icing on the cake for us was when we received our photographs from Aidan. He really managed to convey the essence of the day and how our little family operates!! The photographs became extra important as so many people weren’t there on the day. It was great that they get a real insight into our wedding day. We can’t wait for next year when we have all their beautiful faces captured by Aidan.”
